Dr. Dean Spirou
Clinical Psychologist / PCIT Within-Agency Trainer
Dr. Dean Spirou is a practising Clinical Psychologist, Lecturer, and Board‑Approved Supervisor. He completed his Master of Clinical Psychology and PhD in the Graduate School of Health at the University of Technology Sydney.
Dean has clinical experience across public health, private practice, and community‑controlled health services. He has specialised training in the treatment of childhood conduct problems and is certified by PCIT International as a Within Agency Trainer in Parent‑Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).
In addition to clinical practice, Dean is a Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the University of Technology Sydney, where he teaches, supervises, and conducts research. He has expertise in the assessment and treatment of psychological difficulties associated with higher weight, particularly among individuals with severe and complex physical and mental health conditions. His research focuses on the psychological mechanisms impacting adult obesity and weight management, with emphasis on the psychological barriers to weight loss and weight maintenance.
Dean is also the Chair of the NSW State Committee of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA). He holds full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist.
